French word du Jour

« Un pour tous et tous pour un! »

Welcome to our first word of the day. Today’s phrase was made famous by French writer Alexandre Dumas père in his classic adventure story.

“Les Trois Mousquetaires” (The Three Musketeers) first published in 1844.

« Un pour tous et tous pour un! »

(Pronounced; Aw poor too’say too poor aw)
The “s” at the end of the first “tous” is pronounced because the word following starts with an “e”.

The saying translates word for word as “One for all and all for one!”
